Casi siempre que le preguntas a un dominicano sobre si el país o si él es de derechas o izquierdas responderá que "aquí no existe tal cosa" porque "eso se diluyó con el tiempo". Una tontería porque obviamente los gobiernos tienen su ideología bien clara, solo que le ha vendido a la mayoría de personas que ellos son algo diferente, esto por medio de tratar de satisfacer a todos los grupos sociales y absorbiendo otros partidos. Dominicana tiene más de 2 décadas gobernada por partidos de centro izquierda, miembros del foro de Sao Paulo donde se agrupan los partidos de izquierda de Iberoamérica. Mayor gasto público del que están dispuesto a permitir .
Mantener impuestos relativamente altos para financiar el gasto social, y por lo tanto usarlo como instrumento de redistribución del ingreso en la sociedad.

Equilibrio fiscal (procurar no caer en déficit fiscal).
Progresismo moderado.
Múltiples reformas a la constitución con el pretexto de fortalecer la democracia. (1zquierda).

Obviamente cada partido tiene sus cosas, porque cada grupo tiene sus diferencias aún perteneciendo a una misma ideología, pero eso no quita el hecho de que en realidad el país está inclinado a la izquierda.
