La independencia dominicana fue en el 1844 de Haití. No de España, nación que aunque se quiere negar actualmente es la que formó el pueblo dominicano, a diferencia de Haití, país que invadió varias veces el territorio dominicano y lo ocupó por 22 años. Hay una extraña tendencia que trata de negar esto por motivos para nada justificables. Para que exista la guerra de restauración debió existir la guerra de independencia dominicana, es algo lógico, porqué imagínense lo absurdo que sería que Haití celebrara su independencia de Estados Unidos y no de Francia que fue la verdadera. Además, lo de España fue una anexión, que si la mayoría del pueblo dominicano estaba en contra, pero fue algo más formal que la invasión haitiana, por si fuera poco la anexión tuvo como propósito principal detener el expansionismo haitiano. No hay que olvidar que la separación no fue pacifica y el gobierno haitiano tuvo 3 años antes de la anexión para reconocer al país, pero no lo harían porque aún ocupaban territorio dominicano. Porque sí, mucho se dice que Haití ayudó a dominicana en la guerra de restauración, pero solo fue un breve apoyo militar porque no iba a involucrarse en una guerra con España y lo hizo porque habían ocupado territorio dominicano y España planeaba recuperarlo.
